The recent PMI "Women in Projects: Authentic Networking" event was an inspiring gathering focused on building genuine, supportive relationships among women in project management. Unlike typical networking events, this one emphasized authenticity and creating real connections rather than just exchanging business cards. 🔗

Key Insights

The event highlighted several powerful themes:

1. Collaboration Over Competition:

Attendees discussed the importance of collaboration as the foundation for success in project management. Rather than viewing each other as competitors, the focus was on building a supportive network that lifts everyone up.

2. The Value of Mentorship:

Mentorship emerged as a crucial factor for growth. Women shared stories of mentors who offered guidance and support, highlighting how mentorship empowers them to navigate challenges and advance in their careers.

3. Overcoming Gender-Specific Challenges:

Participants candidly shared experiences of facing unconscious bias and balancing work-life demands in a male-dominated field. The event provided a space to exchange strategies for tackling these obstacles and advocating for one another.

4. Diverse Definitions of Success:

Success in project management varies, and the diverse perspectives at the event showed that there’s no single path to achievement. Each woman was encouraged to define success in her own way, adding depth to the community's collective experience.

Building a Lasting Network

This event was more than a one-time gathering; it was a step toward building a lasting network of women who support each other’s growth and success.

By fostering genuine connections, PMI’s event reminded us that women in project management are stronger together empowered, inspired, and ready to make an impact in the field.
